“You know, when I suggested that we go to a big box store, this is not what I meant.” Mary grumbled.
They stood on a spacious show floor, similar to those used for displaying mattresses or trendy, modular furniture. This room however was filled wall to wall with boxes. All shapes and sizes of boxes. Big bins suited for storage and cozy little crates for files and sordid memorabilia.
Jack sat in front of Mary, firmly wedged into the mouth of a large apple crate lined with plush fabric. A contented grin covered his grey-white feline face, his cat-like ears perked mirroring his excitement. His tail curled lazily around the side of the box.
“Are you sure you’re supposed to be sitting in that?” Mary said skeptically. She didn’t think that any of these containers could handle the weight of people sitting in them all day, even Jack’s wiry frame.
“Of course I’m sure!” Jack replied with confidence. “Look!” He pointed to a small sign next to the boxes. Mary leaned closer to read the small print. It read: Sitting Boxes: Comfortable All Year.
“Is this one of those Cat things?”
“Well, sure. Though I think if more humans gave it a shot they’d like it just as much.”
“I don’t think so. After all, most humans don’t have jelly for bones.” Mary grinned, poking the side of the crate with her foot.
“I don’t have jelly bones!” Jack scoffed, folding his arms indignantly.
“Sure you don’t. However, I’ve heard people complain about back problems from sitting in ergonomic office chairs. I can’t imagine what they’d say folded up like a pretzel in some cardboard bin,” said Mary. “Besides, are you really going to pay $499 for a piece of wood with a pillow in it?”
Jack blanched. “Is it really that much?”
Mary nodded, “That’s furniture for you. If this even counts.” Jack deflated, his previous enthusiasm melting like forgotten ice cream. Mary checked her phone, noting the time. “Come on, let’s get going. I’ve got real errands to run.”
“Could I get some help?” Jack said sheepishly. “I’m a little stuck.”
Hello Friends! It’s been a while! Things have been crazy with College, and I’ve hardly had time to draw for myself, let alone put in time for my Comic project. I’m grateful for all of you who have been patient with me over the past few weeks.
Now the good news! Timepiece production continues! With a week off for spring break and a better handle on the homework situation, I’m finally able to start drawing again.
This week I polished of Episode 3 of Chapter 1. This time Toby has finally caught Toasty, and it’s not looking good! How will Toasty surve the oppressive hand of the Redford family? Since I’m already behind schedule Chapter 1 Episode 3 will arrive on Webtoon and Tapas:
After this episode, I’ve decided to switch my sketching method from digital back to traditional. Although I’d love to spend time improving my digital dexterity, sketching on the tablet is taking way longer than with pen and paper. I’ll get to it eventually, but I’m already behind.
While I haven’t been updating, I have been digging into the world building of Timepiece and rounding out some characters! I plan to post some little hints and things as we move forward, so look out for those!
Thanks again for all your support! See you next week!
Background: I don’t do commissions often, but occasionally when someone asks I’ll accept if I have time. I got a commission from someone on instagram a while ago, but they turned out to be a scammer. Oh well, at least I got to paint a cute Cat. Poor Coco, you were so fun to draw, but you won’t pay for gas.
The commission: $80 for a Cartoon Full Body, Full Color, with background pet portrait + Bonus Mini portrait
The Conversation:
I then drew the cat, which was fun and didn’t take as long as I expected. I even drew a mini portrait just for fun.
I started to become suspicious. Who asks to pay before they’ve even seen what they’ve bought?
Awfully convenient that both payment methods don’t happen to work.
Seriously? This is “Identifying Scammers 101” They send you too much money, you send money back to them, they refund their money back. Now you’re out $920
Phew! These last three weeks have been a tangle mess of stress and homework. I’m already falling behind in my updates for Timepiece, and I worry that if I push myself too much I’ll end up burning out.
Of course, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been drawing at all. I’ve been practicing a good deal actually: drawing from references and drawing from life. All while battling my vicious addiction with short form video content (Ex. YouTube Shorts)
I’ve been having a lot of fun with these, and I’m learning a lot from other artists. (Wherever these images on Pinterest come from…) Honestly, that’s one of the best ways to improve, go see what works for other people and try it out for yourself.
These three were especially fun. I’ve been listening to Rhythm of War, by Brandon Sanderson, so these characters remind me a lot of some of the characters. (The middle one is 100% dressed in a Wind Runner uniform though, I can’t help myself.)
It’s been a while since I’ve drawn this character.
Charlie has been one of my favorites for a while, but so far my style has been far too simple to do his characterization justice. Eventually I’d like to write a story for him (whether in prose or comic form I haven’t yet decided), but that’s far further down the pipeline.
Until then, I’ll occasionally post some world building things along side my normal Timepiece content. (When I’m able to make some that is…)
I just stumbled across Rain World, and needless to say I’m totally obsessed. I mean, look at ‘em! He’s just a lil boi!
This game is so cute, but also terrifying. On one hand you have this itty-bitty Slugcat wandering around picking up spears with his little hands …and then you have the hoards of nasty creatures who would love nothing more than to snack on your little Slugcat flesh.
I swear I’m weak to creative, pixel art indie games. This one is no exception, Good stuff!

Just a random thought…
Why do they be like that tho? π€πΊ /lh /hj
(Any resemblance to actual fursonas, living or dead, is entirely coincidental)
