Good morning Toasty! My drawing habits have improved a lot since I got back from my mission, but sometimes it’s still hard to get going in the morning. But hey! It’s always worth it in the end when you get to see your ideas come to life.

While things are spinning up for episode 6, I wanted to post some fun character art! This time I wanted to try a little bit of a different style and some different rendering techniques. Kinda ended up as a mish-mash of American and Japanese inspirations.

This is an art piece that I commissioned from my friend @SeijinWright! He did a great job depicting Toasty and Lilly in his own style. Seijin is also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served his mission in Ogden Utah. What's super cool is that during his mission he created a visual journal that he is now turning into a Webcomic! Check out his work at https://tailsinogden.com/ !

Early Concepts

Toasty's Model Sheet FINAL FullColor Smol

Here's the first official Model sheet for Toasty. This is closest to his final design for the comic, minus his shoes. I originally made this incase I forgot how to draw him during my mission. (Boy did I underestimate how much I would end up drawing while I was out) I got halfway through a sheet for Lilly, but never ended up finishing. (The Lipsychinging was done in an effort to make comic dialogue look more realistic rather than the usual method of have-character's-mouth-hang-open-to-indicate-speech)

Early logo for TimepieceComic.com! The original webpage was super scuffed and way too resource heavy. Still, I had a good time digitally painting this logo. (BTW the pocket watch is where Timepiece gets its name. Watch for it towards the end of Act 1 😉 )

Lilly's character was created much later than Toasty's. Toasty existed before Timepiece even had a real story planned out. Her design here was very rough, but this drawing still captures their dynamic well. (Fun Fact! I used a CAD Architecture program to draft and model all the buildings in the background! A lot of work for one drawing *phew!*)

Here's a chart I created when I was trying to figure out how the Cat race in Timepiece would compare in height to Humans. (Timepiece Cats are generally shorter than humans)The anatomy is a little scuffed but it ended up being a super useful reference.

Originally I was planning on publishing Timepiece in Grayscale to cut down on the time it takes to create each episode. This was a contrast test to see how Toasty's colors would translate into black and white.

My art style fluxuated quite a bit before I settled on a consistent style for the final webcomic. Some versions of Toasty are more cursed than others. (Fun fact, this was the first version of Toasty drawn on a drawing tablet instead of my phone)

Chillin'

Some pretty scuffed drawings of Toasty. My style continues to improve and evolve. (I always forget I only recently gave him shoes.)

Toasty's character design has remained fairly consistent since I created him. Pretty much the only difference is I changed the color of his shirt. (His personality and character themselves have evolved greatly however)

Back when I first started drawing Toasty my art was not very good. However by working with other artists and studying how they drew, I got a lot better! (Bonus points if you recognize this Artist's style)

Some of you may recognize this image! This is the first appearance of Toasty's design and was inspired by the game Castle Cats after I joined a fan community.
